Black Lives Count is a Chicago-based grassroots initiative working to challenge structural inequities in taxation, housing stability, and economic displacement through community-led organizing and leadership development.
Our Mission
Black Lives Count builds grassroots civic power among Black communities in the Chicago metropolitan area by equipping directly impacted residents with the tools, knowledge, and leadership skills necessary to challenge systemic inequities and advance economic justice.
Our Vision
We envision communities where residents have the power, voice, and collective capacity to influence policies, institutions, and public investments that shape their lives.
Our Approach
We use participatory research, community education, leadership development, and collaborative organizing strategies to address interconnected issues including property taxation, housing stability, economic displacement, and civic underrepresentation.
